Josef Stevanus Matondang
Early-career Researcher, Electronics Engineer, Self-taught Python Developer, and Remote Sensing Hobbyist
ABOUT
Josef is an Electronics Engineer with a Bachelor of Engineering (Sarjana Teknik) degree from Universitas Indonesia and a Master of Science in Technology degree from Aalto University.
He did some geospatial data analysis with Fire Weather Index data on Google Earth Engine while working at Nusantara Earth Observation Network – Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT). He did some work in LoRa-based weather stations and VHF/UHF communications for remote areas e.g., in Forestry industry.
He studied his masters in the Erasmus+ Joint Masters in Smart Systems Integrated Solutions (SSIs), studying Cyberphysical Systems and Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) in Aalto University, University of Southeastern Norway, and Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
He is now a Doctoral Researcher in the Electronics Integration and Reliability group at Aalto University. His current research topic is alternative silicon-on-insulator using aluminium nitride as a buried insulator. In his research, he extensively uses x-ray diffraction and time-domain thermoreflectance to characterize his samples.
In his free time, he would enjoy trying out new cuisine (but usually, just his comfort food), travel and meet up with friends, and mostly spend time in a museum or the public library.
