Wisdom takes care of those who look for her; she raises them to greatness. Loving her is loving life itself; rising early to look for her is pure joy. Anyone who obtains Wisdom will be greatly honored. Wherever he goes, the Lord will bless him. Wisdom’s servants are the servants of the Holy One, and the Lord loves everyone who loves her. Those who obey her will give sound judgments;those who pay attention to her have true security. Put your trust in Wisdom, and you will possess her and pass her on to your descendants. At first, Wisdom will lead you along difficult paths. She will make you so afraid that you will think you cannot go on. The discipline she demands will be tormenting, and she will put you to the test with her requirements until she trusts you completely. Then she will come to you with no delay, reveal her secrets to you, and make you happy. But if you go astray, she will abandon you and let you go to your own ruin.
Sirach 4: 11 – 19
My friend and I, mostly him, have wished for wisdom every time our Bible study group meet up and finished a study session. This process continued for a year when we were a freshman in University. Wisdom is something that everyone wants, they all search for it, and only few has it. After graduating, I found what we have been wishing so far, it was in the Deuterocanonical books in the Catholic bible. Wisdom of Sirach, wisdom passed from a father to his son. Finding the path of wisdom is one thing, walking the path is another. It will be tormenting, the discipline is not easy.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs 9: 10
We start with the fear of the LORD, I have been a Christian since birth, re-discovering Jesus and God was the beginning in my quest of wisdom. Searching for the wisdom, and finally finding the path, through this book, I will begin the quest by reading this book of Wisdom. Practicing it would be REALLY hard. Building the disciplines required will require enormous amount of willpower, if God be willing, I will try my best.
